Rich Flaky Pastry

 
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all purpose flour 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 
  • 2 tablespoons sugar 
  • 1/4 cup lard 
  • 1/2 cup butter 
  • about 9 tablespoons ice cold water 
Method 
Stir flour, salt, baking powder and sugar together. 
Cut in lard and butter with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. 
Add water, a little at a time, using just enough to bind mixture so that dough can be patted lightly to form a ball. . 
HANDLE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE 
Roll as out 1/8 " thick. 

YIELD: 
Enough dough for three 9 inch single shells or one 
9 inch double crust pie and 1 single shell. 
1 1/2 dozen medium size tarts.
