Frosting and Icings for Cakes and Cookies

Freezer Frosting

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups confectioners sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whipping cream

Method

In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, 1 cup of sugar, vanilla and salt. Add the rest of the sugar gradually alternating with cream and whip until desired consistency. Place in a freezer bag and freeze up to 2 months. Thaw well before planning to use.

Yield: enough frosting to frost a sheet cake or 2 layer cakes or 2 dozen cupcakes
