cup sugar

1 tablespoon
all purpose flour

grains salt

1 cup
boiling water

2 tablespoons
butter

1 teaspoon
vanilla

few
grains nutmeg
Method
Combine
sugar, flour and salt in a saucepan.
Add
to boiling water gradually, stirring constantly.
Cook
and stir over low heat until clear and thickened - about 5 minutes.
Remove
from heat; add butter, vanilla and nutmeg.
Brandy,
rum or sherry may replace vanilla.
Yield:
1 cup.
