Ingredients

8 tablespoons
all purpose flour

6 tablespoons
sugar

teaspoon salt

2 cups
milk

2 egg
yolks

1 tablespoon
butter

1 teaspoon
vanilla
Method
Stir
flour, sugar and salt together.
Scald
milk in top of double boiler.
Add
hot milk to dry ingredients, a little at a time, stirring between additions;
mix well.
Return
to double boiler and cook until thickened, stirring constantly; cover and
cook 20 minutes longer.
Beat
egg yolks slightly, add a little of the hot mixture to them, mix well,
and return to double boiler; stir for 2 minutes.
Remove
from heat; add butter and vanilla.
Let
cool before using
Yield:
enough for a large layer cake
